Writing, I’ve come to realize, is a lifelong process of learning, both about the craft and about anything the research leads to. It is a voyage of discovery, about oneself, other people, other times, and other worlds. Sometimes the voyage is challenging but there is exhiliration with each milestone. I’m interested and engaged in all forms: long fiction, short fiction, poetry, plays, and essays. Pieces will appear on this website as they are finished, sometimes published, sometimes not. Below are links to my three novels, the first two of a Kingston Trio (third to come) and my first novel, The Last Stoic.
Bottle and Glass is a story of survival and escape told from the barstools of two dozen boisterous Kingston taverns at the close of the War of 1812.

The novel follows the fortunes of Jeremy Castor and his cousin, Merit Davey, two young men
snatched from the Cornish coast by the Royal Navy in the summer of 1813. A year later, they arrive in Kingston, in The Dominion of Canada, a town tense with the fear and deprivation of war. Paid, pent, and thirsty, their first riotous night ashore is spent at a tavern, the novel’s namesake, Violin, Bottle, and Glass.
Dr. Creedence Scriven arrives in Kingston, leaving behind a whiff of scandal. He is determined to reinvent himself and if that can’t be done in the colonies, then where? It is the same for the other misfits.  Jeremy Castor, uncomplicated and sweet, one step ahead of starvation.  Amelia Spafford, seeking that rarest of female commodities; to be taken seriously.  Lilac Evans, a physician in a whore’s frock.  They all want to write their stories, to express their truths. But it is the lies and insinuations of the coward Opprobrious that get published in the Gazette, the only broadsheet in town. Opening a competing print shop seems the only remedy.

Ancient Rome meets Modern America – Historical Fiction with a twist.

The Last Stoic is a story of appetite and fear, both modern and ancient. Half of the story’s narrative occurs in the time and place of the ancient Roman Empire; the other half occurs in the present-day United States. The parallels between the two eras are so strong that the narrative continues uninterrupted as the setting shifts from historic Rome to modern America, alternating from chapter to chapter.
